A Dedicated Mother, Educator, and Advocate for Educational Excellence
About Me
My name is Meredith Riggan Maurer
I come from a long line of leaders, advocates, and people who deeply value education. My family instilled in me the importance of education and leadership, presence and confidence to stand up for what I believe in, a committment to championing the needs and rights of individuals, fostering environments that support well-being and development, and influencing systemic changes.

I am running for Northville School Board because I am passionate about public education. I hold a B.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Michigan and a M.A. in Counseling from Eastern Michigan University. I am also the Founder & Clinical Therapist at Atlas Collaborative Counseling.
As a former classroom teacher and school counselor, I am the only declared candidate for 2024 with classroom teaching and counseling experience. I am a mom of two little ones who will be future NPS students so I have a vested intrest in making sure NPS remains the premier district that it is.
What Makes Me Different?
With my background as a mother, teacher, high school counselor, and therapist, I can uniquely contribute to these areas with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the education system. My experience positions me to implement meaningful improvements and advocate for the needs of students, teachers, and the community.
CLASSROOM TEACHER
I was a high school English and Psychology teacher in both public and private schools. I began my career teaching English at Leonardtown High School in Maryland, then returned to Michigan where I taught English and Psychology at a private school in Ann Arbor, and finally onto Lahser/Bloomfield Hills High School where I also taught English and Psychology while I completed my master's degree in Counseling.
HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR
From 2016-2018, I was a school counselor at Northville High School. Having been an employee of Northville Public Schools gives me unique knowledge of the district. I understand the day to day workings of schools and worked closely with staff, students, and parents to ensure all voices were heard.
THERAPIST
&
BUSINESS OWNER
During my time as a teacher and school counselor, I was also seeing clients as a therapist in private practice. In 2018, I chose to pursue full-time private practice. In August 2019, I opened my practice which has now grown to include seven clinicians. I have built strong relationships with other local practices and practice owners over the past six years. I continue to prioritize providing accessible and needed mental health care across Michigan.
Having worked on the inside of the education system, I possess a deep understanding of the day-to-day realities faced by students, teachers, and administrators. My unique skillset, developed through my roles as a mother, teacher, high school counselor, and therapist, equips me to create effective strategies and solutions. My core experience allows me to implement meaningful improvements and advocate for the needs of the entire school community.
